Air Jordan 2 x Nina Abney: A collaboration made to represent inclusiveness

Air Jordan 2 x Nina Abney: A collaboration made to represent inclusiveness - SOLE SERIOUSS

Though the Air Jordan brand is more than three decades old, Nike collaborates with leading celebrities and brands to make the brand and its various silhouettes relevant today. Ever since their launch, Air Jordan has collaborated with numerous brands and personalities to come up with colorways that reflect the tastes of the current generation. To date, Nike has launched numerous new arrival sneakers, collaborating with diverse entities, from the late Virgil Abloh to luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and even child-focused brands like LEGO. Nike has made the Air Jordan silhouettes akin to an artist’s canvas when it comes to collabs.

What does Nike aim to achieve with this collaboration?

This time, Nike has collaborated with talented African American artist Nina Chanel Abney. She is known to use her canvas for a cause. Her art depicts colorful graphics that abstractly reflect ideas. With this collab, Nike wants to show the world that its collaborations for colorways aren’t just for fashion or latest trends, but also represent ideas like diversity, inclusiveness, and other modern ideas through its products.

Generally, most Nike shoes are targeted toward adult male sportspersons. By collaborating with a famed lady artist, Nike wants people to know that they care about society. Another way Nike has done so is by designing a silhouette of the Air Jordan 1 Low, especially for those with special needs

What to expect from this collaboration?

Two colorways will launch on 8 July 2022 as part of this collab- A white and gym red High Top Air Jordan 2 and a white and Malachite green Air Jordan 2 Low SE. These Air Jordan sneakers for women and men have been carefully designed for a unique look. For instance, Nina and the designers at Nike have taken great pains to make the stitching look almost nonexistent on the shoe’s exterior.

These shoes come with a premium white leather upper along with a grey heel and pull tab and the colored sail (Malachite Green/ Gym red) hued midsoles in the respective shoe colorway variants.

What most sneakerheads aren’t used to seeing is the ‘Nike’ logo in a casual font on the rear and the Jumpman and Nina’s personal logo in the insoles of both the shoes. Finally, the High Top Jordan 2 comes with Nike’s signature black laces while the Green Air Jordan 2 Low SE comes with Nike’s flat white laces.
