Microsoft Xbox Series X vs. Sony PlayStation 5- Which to choose?
Although it has been a year since these gaming consoles got to the market, comparing them side by side has been challenging. Both have their own USPs and come with specs that are the best in class.
We’ve compared both to give you an idea of what it’s like toBuy Microsoft Xbox Series X onlineor the PS5. Believe us, comparing both did take a lot of effort- both have similar features that we found difficult to choose from one another.
Anyways, let’s see how both gaming consoles stand on various parameters.
Xbox Series X vs.PlayStation 5: A brief comparison
Gaming Libraries
Both consoles have a vast array of games to choose from. The Xbox Series X did not have any exclusive games at launch, the PS5, on the other hand, had amazing games like the Demon’s Souls, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure when it launched.
But this does not mean the Xbox Series X is far behind, you can play third party games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Fortnite, Black Ops Cold War and many others on the Xbox Series X. Microsoft also released about 30 games that are optimized to play on the Xbox Series X, these include Gears 5, Ori and the Will, Forza Horizon 4.
Though you can play third-party games on the PS5 too, what sets Xbox Series X apart is its subscription-based Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service, which lets you play more than 100 games in a variety of genres on various devices (including the Xbox 360, PC, and even Android)
Sony is yet to launch such a service. The good news is, Sony is working on it. As per reports, Sony plans to launch its answer to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate by spring 2022. This will merge the existing PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now subscription services.
Performance
When we compared two games on both consoles, we found the game load times similar on both consoles, though the Xbox Series X took a little more time to load. In the Xbox Series X vs Playstation 5 comparison, we found the performance comparison to be the most difficult.
Design
Though the PS5 and Xbox Series X look as different as chalk and cheese, specs-wise, they are quite similar.
The Xbox Series X is a cuboid-shaped console that matches the looks of a console; the PS5, on the other hand, is fancily designed like a curvilinear space oyster. Though the PS5’s design looks good, it is a pain to set it up either vertically or horizontally. The matte white finish is prone to fingerprints, and its buttons can sometimes be indistinguishable.
The Xbox Series X, though bulky, manages its space better with its sleek design and oversized fan for cooling. The PS5, on the other hand, wins over the Xbox Series X as it has a USB-C port, which helps you to connect other branded controllers and other peripherals when needed.
Controller
Here, the PS5 gets brownie points. Its DualSense controllers are a step ahead of the Xbox Series X. With these controllers, you can literally feel the resistance of various weapons that you use in the game. For example, you can feel the lightness of a bow and the heaviness and resistance of using a large virtual rifle. This gives you a three-dimensional feel to the whole experience of playing a virtual game.
The Xbox Series X, though, has a largely unchanged controller. It’s the same as the Xbox 360, only with an addition of a share button. These controllers run on AA batteries as against the rechargeable Dual Sense controllers of the PS5. This is one of the main drawbacks of the Xbox Series X.
Bonus Note: Their cheaper cousins
The PS5 and the Xbox Series X both have a cheaper cousin- the PS5 Digital Edition and the Xbox Series S respectively. If you intend to Buy Sony PlayStation 5 online, you have the option to buy the PS5 Digital Edition whose main differentiating factor is the lack of a 4K Blu-ray physical disc drive.
The Xbox Series S, on the other hand, has lesser powerful specs than the Xbox Series X- a smaller SSD, a less powerful GPU, lesser RAM, and so on. However, its compact size and pocket-friendly price are ideal for those looking for a budget console, even though it may not be as powerful as the Xbox Series X.
