Well, here it is- Maison Château Rouge x Air Jordan 2 “Chapter 2: United Youth International” releasing on 24 June 2022 in the United States. This is the second collaboration for the Parisian lifestyle brand with the Jumpman and it is ready once again to infuse the African spirit into the Parisian culture.
The Parisian style brand, Maison Château Rouge, first collaborated with Air Jordan in 2019 to design the Air Jordan 1 Mid “Fearless Ones” collection. Co-founder, Youssouf Fofana, seamlessly blends the French and African aesthetics into the design to make the shoes unique.
Youssouf, a designer with French and Senegalese roots, aims to create a new cultural heritage by capturing the youth culture of Paris. He has integrated African influence and the multicultural energy of their Paris neighborhood, Château Rouge, into these Air Jordan 2 sneakers. The sneaker style supports a new creative language and promotes the aesthetics of the African diaspora. With this, Fofana hopes to convey the idea that every endeavor begins small, whether on a community court or as a tiny neighborhood team, and eventually spreads without boundaries. With Maison Château Rouge, this partnership strengthens Air Jordan's ties to Paris and strives to unite the international youth.
Maison Château Rouge’s new take on Air Jordan 2 is reminiscent of Nike Air Jordan 2 “Chicago” released in 1987 and subsequently retroed in 2014. The sail-based leather upper is paired with special graphics covering the tongue and the overlay panel. Splashes of orange-red, brown, and yellow accents appear at the heel, outsole, and tip. A debossed print appears on the tongue and quarter. The design is accentuated by brogue-like fringes and loose stitching is done on the tongue and below the collar. The shoelace is off-white with a dashed line in blaze orange running throughout the middle. The gray-based outsole and yellow-speckled midsole complete the look of the shoe.
The co-branding is visible on the heels of the shoe. The silky collar lining, special tongue tags, and insoles featuring the Michael-Jordan prints add embellishments to the inside of the shoe. The unique thing about this sneaker is its footbed. It proudly displays a caricature of Michael Jordan along with the text “United Youth International”.
Maison Château Rouge is releasing another two sneakers in addition to the above.
The collaboration will also see an apparel release. The design in the collection is significant as it displays the beauty of traditional African craftsmanship. With this second-time team-up, the brand aims to make a splash on the sneaker scene. These will be available at some select retail stores and on Nike’s official website.
