Wilbert Gore

Wilbert L. Gore was an American inventor, engineer, and entrepreneur best known as the co-founder of W. L. Gore & Associates and the creator of GORE-TEX, one of the most revolutionary waterproof and breathable fabrics in modern history. A former DuPont engineer, Gore founded his company in 1958 with a vision to explore the untapped potential of polymer-based materials.

His development of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) led to the creation of GORE-TEX—a material that transformed industries ranging from outdoor apparel and footwear to medicine and aerospace. The innovation became a cornerstone in performance design, used by brands such as Nike, The North Face, and Arc’teryx.
